Conditions of the Soul

soul conditionsHappy Friday, All!

Perhaps you are still cozy and comfy in your bed, post Fourth of July Celebration “recovery” perhaps! That is even more reason to T.G.I.F.!!!

Yesterday was a peace-filled day as it was also my father’s birthday, RIP, “Ike”. He passed over 20 years ago now but I always remember asking my mother why he was so moody. She would often say, “How do you think you would be if your birthday occurred with all these fireworks going on and stuff!” I would laugh. Then she would follow up and tell me, “You and him are just alike. Your birthday is just one week and 2 days after his – you both are Cancer signs aka Moon Children!” I would smile, and began to look for similarities between me and my dad for the rest of my life!

Have you ever thought about what your “soul” looks like? I mean, we go to the dentist if we have a cavity in a tooth. We go to the doctor to check our blood pressure and have him determine if we need blood pressure medicine. We get Cat scans, mammograms, x-rays and MRI’s to check the proper functioning of other body parts. Is there a place one can go to check on the condition of ones soul?! I don’t know about you but I usually can feel how my spirit is and its condition as I interact with others. I try to make sure that I don’t get too upset if someone says something to me or about me that just isn’t true. If people are rude or constantly seeking to “blow their own horns”, especially in my ear, I tend to take a few steps back and distance myself from the negative energy or conflict. Now, I didn’t learn this over night. It took trial and error, soul searching and conditioning of my own soul via hours alone or doing something to nurture my spirit like yoga, meditation, a 12-step program even church or something where I could examine or re-examine my values and behavior. Many of us seek counseling or therapy and are prescribed various drugs and medications to help us balance some of our “soul diseases”. Others of us may not have health insurance or a means of seeing a psychiatrist or life coach. Can we actually work on ourselves? It is often a quiet journey within that allows us a glimpse of the conditions of our soul.

“We shall describe conditions of the soul that words can only hint at. We shall have to use logic to try to corner perspectives that laugh at our attempt.” – Huston Smith

Today, I will give my intuition more freedom. That will help my spiritual self grow. (TOUCHSTONES July 5th)

Have a great day, a wonderful weekend … and be well!

Namaste,
