“I Wonder If I Should Say Anything . . .”

Say What
It’s Friday, ladies and gentleman … boys and girls!

So, uh … T.G.I.F., y’all! Really … thank God … or whomever else you deem important enough to say thank you!

It has been quite a week … past couple of weeks even. There were moments when I really wasn’t sure what was going to happen, where circumstances were going to take me. I tried to stay focused … working and tutoring, posting my on my blog and sending you all e-mails! Do any of you know how much this means to me? It is a way of connecting with others for me. It is a way of letting folks know what I go through just in case they might be experiencing something similar. Most of us know that life happens to all of us! Bad things happen to good people, too! What are you going to do … only expect good things and events … not to mention people in our lives each day?! Let’s be realistic now … LIfe is NOT a bowl of cherries nor a box of chocolates, so to speak. Yet, I do my best to keep a positive attitude irregardless of my circumstances.

Just last week, I was fortunate enough to have received a call from a former co-worker, Rafael Ventura-Rosa … affectionately called “Don Rafa” by me. We worked at ACORN together and he and I have developed a pretty cool bond over the years. In fact, he sent me a message asking me if I could use a few bucks … It was right on time … so he sent me a gift via Western Union … He lives right nearby in Pembroke Pines. I told him I really appreciated it …

Have you ever had those moments in life when you wondered if you should say anything? Maybe someone’s zipper was down … or they had food on their face … or sleep in their eyes! Did you say anything? If not, why? I mean, would you rather see a person … or a friend walk around with food on their face looking rather unkempt? Or, perhaps you are too shy? Well, I am the kind of person that would ask someone if they knew that their zipper was down or that they had “sleep” in the corners of their eyes!! I would want the same, you know! I really like the stories of a person pulling another one from a burning car or a crashed truck … even a man who had parachuted out of a plane and fell to the ground with a thump! I would go to help the person. Wouldn’t you want someone to help you???!!!

Well, there are often people who help me out when times get tight … and believe it or not … I help folks out, too, when times are tight for others … and I can help. Every little bit helps. Two friends, Marie Achille and A. J. Sherman, came through for me as I stared at some traffic fines, including a license suspension if I don’t pay … by today!!! Man o man … thanks, guys! One guy at work told me that he had “been there” maybe six times!! I share stories about my life like my upbringing, my parents, even some of my pitfalls … so that people know that I am human … and … so they know that they can count on me! What do some of you think about this guy who wakes up early (or starts the evening before) to construct an e-mail/anecdote/message … just because?! It’s just something I like doing. Thanks to each of you for reading, too! And don’t forget that if you want to be removed from this e-mail family, just let me know. Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.

Peace,

John I. Cook
