The Devil Made Me Do It …

Happy Monday, All!

Here’s to hoping your weekends went well! Now, I heard of some folks who even had off from work, from the Fourth of July until, yep … today!!! What a way to enjoy a five day weekend! I haven’t seen a vacation of sorts in a while … just a day here and a day there … which is cool – I am not complaining about that today, you dig?!

While my weekend was pretty much uneventful, it was a learning experience. Of course, as some of the lessons seemed unique to me, I am well aware of the fact that many people are in touch, if not themselves, with people who take medications to “control” or alter their behavior. Now, please don’t get me wrong, I would rather someone TAKE their medication to calm them or ease their depression rather than to say or do something kooky to me and kind of blind side me, so to speak. Well, I had one of those experiences this past weekend with a fairly new friend. Luckily, I saw the writing on the wall and had enough sense to NOT try to change someone’s behavior but instead accept it and move on!

On a much bigger picture, if you will, we have the divorce of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. What I learned last night is that Katie’s dad is an attorney who flew into New York while Tom was somewhere like Iceland filming a movie. My source was a segment on “Dateline”, and, they commented that every move Katie made seemed calculated like a chess game, only on a much larger scale. Lurking in the background of the split is the Church of Scientology who thus far has released a statement indicating that this is a personal matter and they have no comments on anyone. However, there are many people from the California based church that have left their ranks and have emitted some strange sounds, to say the least, about the practices of that church. Many people agree with Katie’s “moves” to be sure that her daughter Suri, nor she, becomes the property of Scientology. Many stories have surfaced, including one of a young man found dead in California just a few days ago who had alienated himself from his mother once she split from the “church” and he remained, telling her to lose all forms of contact with him. Peace be still . . . As for me, I choose Calvary Chapel and Pastor Bob for a place to quench my spiritual thirst. Sunday’s service was grand!

Back in the day, the catchy phrase was, “the devil made me do it!”. Nowadays, people say, “I didn’t take my medication …” or simply, “I was drunk!” These are only a few of the things that keep me in close contact with a spiritual health and “higher power” focus so as to NOT succumb to such catch phrases as explanations for my behavior!

May we all have a fine week, and stay clear of “the devil”!

Peace,

John I. Cook, Director
